Skin texture in Photoshop is its most prominent feature. In traditional photography, this texture is created by tweaking the camera settings in a way that allows the light to diffuse across the subject. In modern photography, the texture is created in the software, and is most noticeable in images where the person, vehicle, or object is blurry and therefore less defined. These are also the most desirable images for social media sites, because the unique colors of skin can easily be altered to make the images look attractive to users.

Therefore, skin texture is a critical element that needs to be created in order to be presented to social media users for an image to make a final editing cut. The best way to do this is to go to Photoshop. When you open Photoshop, you should be able to see the first layer in the top left corner. In the background is the image that was originally created by Photoshop. Now it’s time to apply texture. For this example, I have created textures for people in each of the colors. I recommend that you spend the majority of your time creating textures for people with different skin tones, skin texture in Photoshop can make skin texture appear very natural.

How to Apply Texture

In Photoshop, to create textures for people you’ll need to do a couple of things. First, in the Background of the image, create a new layer.

Then in the Textured layer, locate the texture image and change it to Skin texture. This way, if the image is the same texture it will automatically overwrite the existing texture.

Now apply this texture texture to the background of the image. You can do this to all the images that you want to create texture for by using the first layer to add texture and then applying it to each of the layers in the top-left corner.

If you prefer to apply texture only on skin, you can do that too by adding the skin texture image as a background layer. In the Background layer, in the Background color, change it to Skin texture.

When you’re happy with the textures of your background image, apply the textures in the previous examples as layers to each of the layers in the top-left corner of the image. When you’re ready, click on the Adjustment Brush to fill in the texture of your skin texture. Be sure to apply it in the skin texture color of the layer below the skin texture, because skin texture in Photoshop is applied in the skin texture color.

Apply Skin Texture on Skin

The skin texture is applied to the skin texture layer of the image in Photoshop.

Using the texture layer to apply texture to skin gives a more realistic appearance to the skin.
